What if the future is just a repetition of the past? In his new exhibition ‘Remember the future’, artist and sculptor Jonas Hödicke explores the recurring cycles of human history. His works play with memory and foreboding, with progress and regression – and raise the question of whether we are really learning from the past or merely repeating ourselves in new forms.
In a world that is changing rapidly but often shows the same patterns, Hödicke’s sculptures and paintings give the viewer pause. They remind us of hopes that turn into shadows, of achievements that falter and of the fragile balance between visions of the future and already known realities.
Let Hödicke’s artistic view of the future inspire you – and perhaps also challenge you. We look forward to seeing you there!
The future was, the future is coming,
a circle that never ends.
What once happened, happens again,
because no one bends out of time.
The world of stone, man of embers,
a game of fear, a dance of courage.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
A shadow heavy, a light so empty.
Let us forget, let us not remember,
when time breaks the old images?
What comes was there – what was, passes,
and nothing lasts forever, nothing endures.
Yesterday was tomorrow, time turns,
If you lose sight of it, it deceives you.
Art tells, sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly,
of the eternal game of the journey.
